DRI is the Largest Bar Association of Civil Defense Attorneys and In-House Counsel, through a longstanding affiliation CDL functions as both a Region and a Local Defense Organization within DRI’s structure affording the Association and our members ample opportunities to access DRI’s many educational and networking opportunities.
Representatives from the CDL Board of Directors, as well as the Executive Director attend both a Regional Meeting, and the Annual Conference of DRI each year. CDL is also represented within the DRI structure by a Regional Representative, and a DRI Board Member.
From now until September 30, 2024, current CDL members are eligible to join DRI at no additional cost. To benefit from this offer, you must be an attorney joining DRI for the first time, or a former member, whose membership lapsed more than five years ago (prior to June 1, 2019). DRI Annual Awards
DRI’s Annual Professional Achievement and Service Awards celebrate and honor outstanding performance by state and local defense organizations (SLDOs), DRI law firms, and individual members.
Canadian Defence Lawyers has been recognized with the following awards:
2021 DRI SLDO Diversity Award: recognizes a local defense organization that: 1) Has achieved significant success in demonstrating a commitment to diversity within and outside of their organization; and 2) Demonstrates a commitment to diversity as evidenced by a formal diversity plan committed to achievement, sensitivity and receptivity to diversity issues, including promotion of its minority and women lawyers or volunteers.
2007 Rudolph A. Janata Award Recognizing an Outstanding Defense Bar Association: recognizes a local defense organization that has undertaken an innovative or unique program contributing to the goals and objectives of the organized defense bar.
Canadian Defence Lawyers Member, Heather Sanderson, K.C. Sanderson Law, Calgary, AB has been recognized with the following award:
2024 Fred H. Sievert Award Recognizing an Outstanding Defense Bar Leader: Presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution towards achieving the goals and objectives of the organized defense bar.
Canadian Defence Lawyers Member, Susan Gunter, Dutton Brock LLP has been recognized with the following awards:
2023 G. Duffield Smith Outstanding Publication Award: Presented to the author of a feature article in For The Defense or InHouse Defense Quarterly. The subject matter of the article should be of current relevancy to the practice interests of DRI members, containing fresh and imaginative ideas, be well-researched, and presented in a lively writing style.
