Lee Samis Award of Excellence

This Canadian Defence Lawyers Award for distinguished service, named for the founding President of CDL, recognizes exceptional contributions and/or achievements by members of CDL:

 to the legal profession in general; or
 to jurisprudence in Canada on the law of insurance; or
 to law or development of the law of insurance in Canada; or
 a significant law-related benefit to CDL and/or the insurance industry.

A special event is held to honour the recipient of each year's award - a wonderful opportunity to

recognize leaders in the defence bar and also to get together with colleagues in a social setting.

Richard B. Lindsay KC Exceptional Young Lawyer Award

Named in honour of a Past President of CDL this Canadian Defence Lawyers Award recognizes exceptional contributions by a Young Lawyer member of CDL:

to the legal profession in general; or
to jurisprudence in Canada; or
to Canadian Defence Lawyers and its membership; or
service to the community at large.

Any CDL member in good standing who is a Young Lawyer (ten years of call or less) is eligible for the award (except a member of the current Executive). The award is presented at the Annual General Meeting.

RICHARD B. LINDSAY Q.C.YOUNG LAWYER AWARD NOMINATION FORM

Philippa G. Samworth Award for Advancement of Women in the Legal Profession 

Named in honour of a CDL founding member, this award recognizes individuals for distinguished service to women in the legal profession in Canada, by demonstrating:

- Commitment to advocating the inclusion and promotion of women in the legal profession through activity that has a visible, tangible, or measurable impact on the perception of attitude toward, and respect for the treatment of women, and fostering women’s initiatives and promoting positive mentoring relationships with other women in the legal profession; and/or

- Leadership in the development of measures to fight gender discrimination and prejudice in the profession.

Any individual in good standing with the legal profesison is elegible for this award; preference is given to members of Canadian Defence Lawyers.
