CDL members can communicate instantly with each other using the CDL listserve. This listserve will soon be replaced by a Regional Blog which can be accessed by CDL members by logging into the website. This Blog and the listserv will overlap for a period of time to allow members to adjust to this new feature, after which the listserv will be reserved for the use of CDL staff and Board members only. The Blog will be available to members in February.
What are the usage guidelines for messages posted to a CDL listserv?
CDL has compiled an
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) to help ensure that the listservs remain a useful communication tool for you and other members using them. Participation in the listserv is offered to you conditional on your acceptance of the terms, conditions and notices contained below.
What is a listserv?
A listserv is an automated means of distributing e-mail. Mail sent to a listserv is automatically sent to all members of the listserv. It is intended to provide a medium for rapid exchange of information, assistance, debate, and discussion of professional issues among members. Membership on the list is limited to members of that
particular listserv.
Properly used, the CDL listserv is a great resource for expert witnesses, in-province and out-of-province referrals, breaking legal issues, strategy, and the everyday nettlesome legal research issues that we all face. Keep in mind that CDL members have varying levels of expertise. A basic question with an answer obvious to you may be difficult for someone else. Or vice versa.
How do I subscribe to a listserv?
All CDL members with a valid e-mail address are automatically subscribed to the CDL lawyers listserv. To make sure your correct e-mail address is on file please contact
membership@cdlawyers.org
How do I unsubscribe from a listserv?
If you no longer wish to be part of the listserv, then simply send an email to
membership@cdlawyers.org with only the text “unsubscribe me” contained in the subject line of the message.
How do I send a message to a listserv?
To send a message, simply type the e-mail address of the listserv in the “to” box of your e-mail. Example: cdllawyers@lists.cdlawyers.org is the e-mail address you would use to send a message to CDL lawyer members.
What are the current listservs and their email addresses?
CDL operates three listservs:
regular members
cdllawyers@lists.cdlawyers.org
associate members
cdlassociates@lists.cdlawyers.org
women litigators
womenlitigators@lists.cdlawyers.org
What should I do if I have a problem and/or comments about the listserv?
Do not post them to the listserv. If you have any questions about a list, would like to report an error, or if you experience any problems with other members on the list not adhering to these rules, please contact CDL at
execdirector@cdlawyers.org
I’m getting too many emails – what can I do?
Many members find it useful to create filters for listserv email. This will automatically direct email from the listserv to a separate mailbox in your email software. Talk to your system administrator at your firm for instructions.
Another option is to change your listserv option to a single weekly digest of all the postings. If you would like to change your settings contact us at
membership@cdlawyers.org
